Tips and ideas for finding the best holiday apartment in Barcelona

We’ll give you practical advice about how, when and where to find the best value vacation rentals in Barcelona.

If you are going to settle in Barcelona, you would have to look for a long term rental in Barcelona. In this way, you can save money searching without rushing to find your home. The price per night of a monthly apartment is cheaper than that of a holiday apartment.

At the end of this page, discover the best, cheap and least touristy neighbourhoods. The results come from a survey we did on 850 foreigners.

How to get the best value for money?

50% less in low season

The low season in Barcelona lasts for four months between November to February, excluding Christmas and New Year. In general, the same holiday apartments cost almost double during the four months in high season than during the four months in the low season. In winter, you can get much cheaper flights and the temperatures in the city almost never go below 8ºC.

The key to saving money: Book in advance

If you are going to travel in high season, try to book your vacation rental in advance. If you do this, you will get a good place to sleep for a good price. Here’s an example: people who book their holiday apartment at the last minute for the world-famous mobile technology congress held in Barcelona at the end of February pay a price two or three times more expensive than those who booked in advance.

The benefits of staying in an holiday apartment

The benefits of a holiday apartment are:

  1. It is more cheap than a hotel.
  2. An apartment has more space.
  3. There is a own kitchen.
  4. You will feel at home and still enjoy the comforts of a hotel.

If there is a group of people staying, the price per person is lower. In this way, sleeping in an holiday apartment in Barcelona is especially recommended for families and big groups.

Value for money

When you go to reserve your vacation rental, we recommend that you analyse its value for money. There is a large offer of holiday apartments in Barcelona and the cheapest tend to have space and comfort limitations. By increasing the price a little you will see that the benefits increase proportionally.

All the vacation rentals are verified by us and we guarantee that the apartment is handed over in perfect condition. In addition, our customers have access to a 24hr assistance service for emergencies that may arise.

Which is the best neighbourhood to stay in?

If you are looking for a lively area close to the tourist attractions or with the best nightlife, you can look at central apartments in Barcelona or close to the beaches. In this case, Barceloneta or Eixample are good neighbourhoods to stay in.

If you prefer a quieter environment, you should look for a flat further from the centre. Some good neighbourhoods could be: Gràcia, Sarrià, Sants or Les Corts. These areas are well connected to the centre of Barcelona thanks to the city’s excellent metro network.

If you want to be sure of your decision, you should find out the opinions of foreigners living in Barcelona. We asked 850: Which is the best area to live in Barcelona? You will find the results in this article, a graph, lots of opinions and various videos. The Gràcia neighbourhood is the most loved.

Stay responsibly: the tourist tax

Barcelona has less than 1.6 million inhabitants and receives an average of 8 million tourists per year. This fact has led to many people renting their flats without a municipal license. There are many inspections and a Catalan law that requires publishing a license number in any advertisement. If you see a holiday apartment advertised on any website with a code that does not start with HUTB, you should be suspicious.

The Catalan tourist rate serves to raise funds for the sustainability, development and promotion of infrastructures and tourist activities. This tax is positive for travellers and for the territory. The rate of a vacation rental in Barcelona is €2.48 per person and night and is only applies for the first 7 nights of the stay for people over 16 years.
